Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s legal feud seems to be far from over. Despite settling their divorce after eight years of dispute, the former couple has once again returned to court over their assets, including Chateau Miraval, the $500-million French winery they once jointly owned. Jolie has filed a response to Pitt’s lawsuit, in which he accused her of breaching an agreement not to sell a 50 per cent stake in the property without his approval.

While Brad Pitt claimed he spent years and considerable money building Miraval into a successful winery, it was in 2021 that Jolie sought to sell her stake, to which the Ocean’s Eleven star agreed to pay her $55.4 million for her interest.

According to a report in In Touch, Jolie later backed out of the deal over a proposed non-disparagement agreement, leaving Pitt unconvinced. Eventually, the deal was rejected, and Jolie sold her stake for $64 million. As a result, Pitt demanded that the sale be voided, accusing the new owners of attempting a hostile takeover of his company.

In a fresh response, Jolie has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

“Jolie offered to sell Pitt her half-interest in Chateau Miraval. As part of that sale, Jolie agreed to a common non-disparagement clause limited to not disparaging Miraval’s wine business. If that sale had been completed, this lawsuit never would have happened. But at the last minute, Pitt ‘stepped back’ from his agreement to buy Jolie’s interest in Miraval, and the deal collapsed,” the actress’s lawyer said, according to In Touch.

The lawyers also explained that Pitt had stepped back from the deal after Jolie filed documents accusing him of domestic violence, which he feared would go public. They further added that her ex-husband later offered another deal; however, it included a new condition that would require covering all of his personal misconduct, which could have included evidence of his abuse towards the actress and their children.

While strongly denying all allegations, Angelina Jolie stated that she appropriately completed and fully performed any obligations imposed by the contract, seeking the suit to be dismissed and requesting to be awarded costs.

Earlier in December 2024, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt settled their divorce after years of legal disputes, finalising the terms on December 30. The actress’s lawyer, James Simon, revealed in a statement that Jolie and her children had left all the property they shared with Pitt and that she is now focused on finding “peace and healing” for her family.
