Mikey Madison is currently on cloud nine after bagging the Best Actress Oscar and BAFTA 2025 awards for her performance in the romantic comedy drama Anora. After her big win, the actress is all set to embark on a new journey soon as she has finally signed her new project with the Monos director Alejandro Landes Echavarria. In the film, the actress will be seen sharing the screen space with Hollywood star Kirsten Dunst, well known for her role as Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man (2002).
According to Variety, her upcoming project, a thriller, is titled Reptilia and is penned by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman.
Backed by Pastel, Imperative Entertainment and AF Films along with Landes Echavarría under his A Stela Cine banner, the film follows the story of a dental hygienist who gets seduced by a mysterious mermaid into the dark and wet underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade. The principal photography will commence this fall.
Further details about Madison’s character in the narrative and the film’s official release date are yet to be revealed by the makers. The project for the 26-year-old comes on the heels of her recent Best Actress win at the Academy Awards for Anora. The film was nominated for six Oscars and won in as many as five categories – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
Apart from Anora, Mikey Madison’s other movie credits include Scream 5 and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, along with the FX series Better Things.
On the other hand, Kirstem Dunst, who also bagged an Oscar nomination for her performance in The Power of the Dog, has another project in the pipeline. She will be next seen in Derek Cianfrance’s Roofman alongside Channing Tatum and Ruben Ostlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down.
Landes Echavarría’s previous film Monos premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, going on to win the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award. It also won the Best Film Award at the 2019 BFI London Film Festival.
