Fans of the American reality show The Voice remember the playful camaraderie between Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. The two artists would never shy from poking fun at one another with insults and jokes. The two artists were original judges when the show premiered in 2011. While the Maroon 5 frontman remained on the show until 2019, Shelton remained a part up to 2023. As Adam Levine gears up to return as a coach on The Voice 27, looks like his banter with his former co-coach is still not over.

During a conversation with People Magazine, Adam Levine shared his excitement about returning to the reality show. Talking about his comeback, he joked, “The best part about being back with The Voice Family is that I don’t have to deal with Blake Shelton.”

He further quipped sharing that he ‘just doesn’t like him’ and it would be great to not be around him. “He is a bad friend”, he further added.

Adam then quickly clarified himself and said that he was kidding. He loves the country singer and simply feels the luxury of uttering ‘Blake jokes’ since he is not part of the show.

The Animals hitmaker further noted he was welcomed to the show with open arms. He explained that his temporary exit from the show allowed him a break where he focussed on his family, music, and tours.

“It was nice to go and just be with my family, and go tour, and do music, and do what I was originally in my mind intended to do: make music and play music”, he noted.

Talking about how he looks at The Voice, Adam noted that he doesn’t think of it as a ‘competition’ which he considers a ‘ridiculous concept’. For him, it’s an opportunity to share his experiences with the people on the show. He said, “It’s music, and we’re all supposed to help each other out, and get each other’s backs, and make each other better.”

Levine will be joined by fellow coaches Kelsea Ballerini, Michael Bublé and John Legend for the upcoming season. The popular show is set to premiere on Monday, February 3 at 8 pm ET on NBC.
