Police officials said at least three family members of Wani were arrested and a process to attach his house would start soon. “We have identified the two killers and follow-up action is going on and they will be dealt with sternly,” said J&K DGP Dilbag Singh.
The police officials said that during investigation Wani’s name cropped up. Following an input regarding the presence of Wani at his ancestral home at Kutpura, 34 RR of Army and 178 battalion of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to police, militants lobbed grenades at the search party, which retaliated. However, the police said Wani escaped taking advantage of darkness.
Three relatives of Wani, , identified as Arif Ahmad Wani, Shabir Ahmad Wani and Touseef Ahmad Wani of Shopian, were arrested for allegedly harbouring militants. “A process for attachment of property as proceed of terrorism has been initiated U/s 25 of UAPA, Act 1967,” he said.
